SunEdit 2000 beta available Posted by Felix - Monday, August 30 2:12 PM EDT
Steve from ChildsPlaySoftware just sent me the press release for their newest rules.ini editor: SunEdit 2000. This program allows you to modify the game by editing the rules.ini file and will be soon released as shareware. If you can't wait to modify your copy of Tiberian Sun, grab the beta from their site.

Hello, Just a quick note, SunEdit 2K, the editor from the same people who brought you RedEdit 98 has been released. It's current in it's first Beta stage and at the moment you can only edit the Infantry Settings. Don't let that put you off though, within the next couple to three days we will add the Vehicle Settings. Also available very soon will be a German Language DLL, for people who want SunEdit 2K in German!

To download the editor, please go to

Minor bug? Posted by Shinano - Monday, August 30 10:38 AM EDT
Over at Strategy Planet, Dom says he found a minor bug in TS, dealing with orcas. Here's his version:

I've noticed a number of times where two Orca Fighters will land on top of each other on a Helicopter pad. I can't reproduce it on a regular basis yet, but it has something to do with the logic used when you attack with the Orcas and one of them doesn't have any ammo. Seems to happen most when you hit the S key to stop them, they fly back and two will sometimes end up on the same pad.
Sounds pretty insignificant, but you know the perfectionists at WW. Thanks to PCNC for the tip.

TS Hummer Posted by Shinano - Monday, August 30 10:19 AM EDT
Also over at Tiberiansun.de, they have a pic of the TS hummer! Here it is:

That car is definitely sweet! I wish I had a car like that! But that's not likely anytime soon.:)

TS CD pics Posted by Shinano - Monday, August 30 10:13 AM EDT
Over at Tiberiansun.de, they have pics of TS cds and other paraphenilia. I'll have to take BG:TS's word for that, because I don't understand a whit of german. Here's a sample:

Ooh pretty huh? Head on over for the rest.

I'm Here! Posted by Shinano - Monday, August 30 10:00 AM EDT
Yes, it's me! You don't know who I am? Well, I'm the newest updater for Tumsun. Those of you who know me already are aware that I'm online quite a bit. So never hesitate to mail me. It can be about new news, a question, or just why you think the sky blue. That's about all for now. Cya around. ;)

EAC Review Posted by [lp]Kane41 - Monday, August 30 8:28 AM EDT
My friends over at EAC have written a new preview of TS. The article is well written, goes over all the features of TS, contains some great screenshots and is definitely worth the read. Head on over to EAC and check it out.

First Editor Posted by [lp]Kane41 - Monday, August 30 8:23 AM EDT
IGCNetwork has released the first ever rules.ini editor for Tiberian Sun, Nova. Here's what they say about on the official site.

IGC Nova is an awesome new program for Command & Conquer - Tiberium Sun players. It's a game editing program that lets players customize game settings (a LOT of game settings). Overview of Features

  • All possible game settings (not just the most common ones)
  • Organized by game section (units, buildings, etc.) Automatic backup and undo capability
I haven't tried it myself so feel free to send me your impression of it. Go here to download it.

Another Review Posted by [lp]Warmaker - Monday, August 30 8:13 AM EDT
The Strategy Shrine have put up their review on Tiberian Sun. They give it a 9.5 out of 10 with high opinions of the gameplay, multiplayer and the games longetivity.

I don't do this very often, but as soon as the store opened, I went in and picked up my reserved copy. As I was about to leave, I noticed that it was getting kinda crowded in the corner that had the game boxes. Ten minutes later, my CD-ROM drive opened then closed and I was put into a trance. Later that day, I realized it had already reached 23:00, and decided to write this review.
Read the review here while I sit, jealous of the author's test system.

New Rules.ini Posted by [lp]Warmaker - Monday, August 30 8:03 AM EDT
Jeff Parsons has emailed me a rules.ini that he's edited. His email pretty much says it all, but the rules.ini that he did send me is definately one of the better ones out there.

Attached is a rules.ini I have developed that re-introduces many of the features WW dropped from TS ( as well as adding a few tweaks of my own). It is my hope that others will join me in developing an "official" player developed mod that we can submit to WW for integration into TS, as there have been so many complaints about issues that are so easily fixed (no chameleon, no search towers, no orca transport, no umagon, etc.... I can be reached at jparsons@beasafekid.com by anyone interested in working with me on this project.

His idea of working on that player developed mod is definately and interesting one, email him here if you're interested in that. Also, you can download his altered rules.ini here (you might need to click and then click "save as"), below are a list of its changes.
AI Builds Walls
Random Ion Storms
Random Visceroids
Random Meteorites
Increased Unit Queing (10 instead of 5)
Increased Crate Regeneration (every 2 minutes instead of 3)
Smarter Player Units:
Player vehicles will attempt to autocrush enemy infantry
Player units will be more aggressive in returning the fire of the enemy
Player infantry will scatter
New Units and buildings
GDI - Buildable Orca Transports (carry 5)
GDI - Buildable Mammoth Tanks
GDI - Buildable Umagon Infantry Sniper
GDI - Buildable Light post
GDI - Buildable Search Tower
GDI - Buildable Dropship (carry 10)
NOD - Buildable Chameleon Spy
NOD - Buildable Redlight Light Posts (for a more evil effect!)
NOD - Repair Depot
NOD - Search Tower
NOD - Dropship (as above)

NOD Cyborg Commander has a secondary rocket launcher weapon
The limit for Mark II Mammoth Tanks is upped to 5
Concrete walls for GDI and NOD have been strengthened
Each additional factory or barracks increases unit production speed by 25% (meaning you would need five barracks to double your production speed).

Reinforcements Have Arrived Posted by [lp]Warmaker - Sunday, August 29 8:11 AM EDT
I noticed that Cyclone of TSD had typed up what appeared on the back of the box that his Nod pewter figurine came in.

COLLECTOR'S EDITION NOD SOLDIER

Kane was the ultimate architect of peace. Kane knew there could be no peace without power.

Everyday is a battle day. Every citizen is a warrior. Everywhere there is oppression - there must be conflict. There is no greater crime against Peace than the refusal to fight for it.
- The Brotherhood

Incase anyone's interested I've just typed out what appears on the back of the GDI box;

COLLECTOR'S EDITION GDI SOLDIER
In the years since the first war against Nod, the GDI's focus changed to battling the dealy Tiberium plague. The resurgence of Kane and The Brotherhood has brought a new challenge. In the face of these two enemies, we must join together in the battle in the future of our planet.

You ask, what is our aim?

I can answer with one word: Victory - Victory in spite of all terror, for without victory there is no survival.

General James Solomon,
GDI Surpreme Commander

Reviews Everywhere Posted by [lp]Warmaker - Sunday, August 29 7:51 AM EDT
Understandably, with Tiberian Sun now out reviews of the game are popping up everywhere. If you've got TS then these reviews will just waste valuable time you could be spending with TS, so skip this update. Otherwise read on so that you can see what you're missing out on. First, Gamespot UK have put up their review on TS where they give it a 9.6 out of 10;

Tiberian Sun has been in development for almost three years and anticipation has risen and hopes deflated several times in that period. But it's finally here. Don't expect anything drastically new from a technology or gameplay point of view, though this is still the Command & Conquer we all know and love, and while a lot of the units have changed in name and appearance and new ones have been introduced, it's still very much familiar ground. The game contains two single player campaigns, one for NOD and one for GDI, multiplayer missions and a skirmish mode where you can also play single missions against the computer AI.

The next review written by NGO, I noticed over at TSD. Their review sums up TS by saying;

When all is said and done, Tiberian Sun is still just C&C. It’s still 2D, there’s still the same interface bar running down the right side of the screen, and the cut scenes’ acting is still a mixed bag, although they have a much higher production value. And it’s still a wonderful game. For all the hype that has surrounded the title, it’s a little sad that there wasn’t anything more revolutionary in the game but there are times when just making a good game better is more than enough.

The third and final review has been written by ComChip where TS is given a 9 out of 10;
The main reason why new games these days have much more replay value than the older ones is the addition of multiplaying. With this game, you can play over the internet via Westwood Online, a modem or serial link to another PC, or within an IPX network. Although there are plenty of multiplaying option to choose from, the missing TCP/IP option is definitely a downside. I don't know if Westwood didn't have time to implement this, or Westwood just wants to promote Westwood Online to a level similar to Blizzard's Battle.net.
Thanks to TSTZ for the tip on that one.

Hammerfest Base Posted by [lp]Kane41 - Saturday, August 28 10:38 PM EDT
I have gotten literally over a hundred emails asking how to beat the GDI mission "Capture Hammerfest Base." Now instead of answering them all I thought it would be better to just get it all out here.

Once you gain control of the units, load all 5 engineers into the APC. Then take your three Hover MRLS and go past the bridge and turn right. You will then see a small landing. Go up the landing onto land and destroy the three Recon Bikes and the single buggy, you should be able to do this without losing a Hover MRLS. Now if one of your Hover MRLS was hurt bad take him back to where you started and get one of those crates.

Now you should still be on land and to the right of a little house. In front of you and to the left you should see a ramp going back down into the water. Go down it. You will then see a laser turret and a Radar Tower. Destroy the laser turret from a distance then take out the Radar Tower. Now that the way is clear bring your APC up and place it on the little island where the Radar Center was.

This is where most people get stuck, they try to get past the Obelisk of Light but you can't. You must find the Obelisk's weakness, and that's power. Now go back to your Hover MRLS and move them up a few squares off the island. Now in front of you, you should see a cliff that can be destroyed. Select your Hover MRLS and click on the part of the cliff that you can destroy. Then go up the ramp onto the island. Now the fun part, this island is totally isolated and can't be reached by any Nod forces. Cautiously, from a distance, take out ALL the power plants you can without leaving the island.

Once the power is off and you have destroyed ALL of the power plants you won't have a problem with the Obelisk. Now leave the island and return to where your APC is. Now go back to the landing where you first left the water, the one where you destroyed the Recon Bikes. Get back in the water, stay in the water, and move to the right of the map. Once you reach the edge of the map and are still in the water head up and you will then see the nasty Obelisk. Destroy it.

Now that the Obelisk is gone move up and pass the island that it is on. Then go under a bridge to the left and you will see another landing. Destroy everything on the landing, safely from a distance. No that the landing is clear go up it onto main ground. Head up and a bit left until you see another Nod base to the left. Go past it and back into the water up top. There isn't any need to destroy this base. Now that the way is clear bring up your APC to where your Hover MRLS are.

Now the hard part is done. Move your Hover MRLS along the top of the map staying in the water at all times. Keep going until you go as far as you can while still staying in the water. Once you reach the upper left-hand corner there will be a cliff, one that can be destroyed. Select your Hover MRLS and destroy the cliff. Then move your Hover MRLS and APC up and into the base.

To reclaim the entire base you need to capture the Construction Yard. To do this you have to lower the firestorm defense. To do this you must lower power. Capture three power plants then take an engineer in the APC and capture the Construction Yard.

Then it's just a matter of repairing your base, fortifying it and destroying the remaining Nod forces.

That's about it. If you have any other questions on missions, or pretty much anything, ask me.

TS Review (again...) Posted by Felix - Saturday, August 28 9:18 AM EDT
Slowly all magazines start to release their Tiberian Sun reviews... This time it's PC Gameworld that wrote down their opinions about Tiberian Sun (and of course also included the well know screenshots). A snippet:

It is always an event when a highly anticipated game makes its way to my doorstep. Initially, like most gamers, I am filled with excitement at the prospect of playing such a game. Then, reality hits: not many games live up to the hype. I owe it to anyone who reads this review to deliver the most objective, in depth information I am capable of. You guys need to know if the game is worth the plastic case it comes in, and coming to such a determination about a much-hyped game like Tiberian Sun is no easy task, I must tell you. This game is the sequel to a legend, and in order to be deemed a success, it has to outdo its predecessor. That's a tall order. [...]

Thanks fly over to JediForce for that news tips.

TS Patch Posted by BritishTS - Saturday, August 28 4:17 AM EDT
Yep, there's already a patch for TS. All you have to do is login to Westwood Online via TS and it'll auto update. It's ment to fix major bugs in the Westwood interface and speed up the communication between you and the servers. I still don't have my copy from EB World so please don't ask me any questions about this. Thanks to BG:TS for the info.
